Aggressive skating is, in essence, a more advanced form of conventional "rollerblading" commonly termed "trick skating". This form of skating commonly incorporates the use of ramps, stair rails, half-pipes, curbs, launch pads, and other objects that may be used to interact with while on skates. However, Aggressive skating is not about the objects you interact with, but rather how you interact with them. Pulling off big jumps, rail slides, stair slides, and grinds are only a few of the things an aggressive skater does. Aggressive skating, "inlining", "rolling", or simply "skating" are just a few terms that classify this extreme and dangerous sport.

Aggressive skating is one of the fastest-growing individual segments of inline skating. This sport requires a special kind of skate that contains a grind plate in between the wheels for sliding down rails. Noticeably, aggressive skating is an extreme sport and the skate must appropriately guard and support a user's foot. This is done by tightly cushioning the inside of the skate and providing various mechanisms to buckle the skate on to the users foot. For this reason, some professional skates come equipped with a buckle as the primary means of tightening the skate, and a shoelace and velcro strap for added support. However, preference plays a huge role in aggressive skating because some people believe that skating with a loose skate is more beneficial. Furthermore, the general rule when choosing aggressive inline skates is to select something that will withstand the rigors of falling but yet be comfortable and light enough not to hurt your foot or ankle while skating.
