With the holidays fast approaching, it's time to start planning. Aside from dinners and decorations, there are gifts to buy and wrap. Gift wrap costs can really add up, especially if you enjoy being creative with fancy gift wrap and bows. There are ways to find cheap gift wrap prices and still get the pretty effects you want.

Cheap Prices at Dollar Stores

There are dollar stores everywhere: Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar... Search the malls in your area and you should be able to find one. Dollar stores may not be the answer to everything, but they provide a bonanza of cheap gift wrap solutions. There's often a wide variety of Christmas gift wrap and gift bags to choose from. I especially enjoy the gift bags, and have found the quality to be just as good--or sometimes even better--than other, pricier stores. Keep in mind that gift wrap will only be in use for a few days out of the year, so a cheap dollar item can do just as well as a more expensive one!

Dollar stores also have pretty plastic Christmas ornaments that are designed for Christmas trees. I use them to decorate gift wrap or gift bags instead. There are usually three to six ornaments per $1 package, so you can decorate nine to eighteen Christmas presents for the same price one bow would cost you at Hallmark!

Cheap Prices in Drugstores and Discount Stores

Many stores now have "dollar aisles". Target has an especially good one, with seasonal dollar items that really come in handy. You can buy gift bags, tissue paper and cards. Dollar rolls of patterned ribbon, intended for scrapbooking, works just as well to decorate Christmas presents and coordinate with gift wrap.

Cheap Prices from Sales

Shopping for gift wrap out of season always gets you a deal. Shop early for sales--these days they have Christmas gift wrap one aisle over from the Halloween costumes. Shop those after-Thanksgiving Day sales for cheap gift wrap and bows and you'll be set for the holidays.

Well put together! I love these practical ideas. I shop bulk and after holiday sales. I need to save bows without crushing them (LOL).

Loved the article. It gripes me to spend more on wrapping paper and bags than the gifts in them. Great article idea and good tips.
