One thing that is part and parcel of any totalitarian movement has always been the willing suspension of the truth. As the far right in America is pushing for a country overwhelmed by their twisted ideological visions, they are more and more willing to circumnavigate logic, science, and sense. And now that their leader (the esteemed Mr. Bush) has painted them into a corner that may well cost them their shot at what they want America to be, they are acting with desperation.

No longer is there even an attempt by FOX News to make sure of their facts. Of course they haven't been able to claim to be "fair and balanced" with a straight face for years, but at least they used to at least not put out so many obviously false stories. The most recent, Bill O'Reilly throwing out another bomb aimed at "the liberal press" by claiming they didn't cover the awarding of The Medal of Honor to a soldier for duty in Afghanistan. Of course, it was thoroughly covered everywhere. That doesn't matter to the FOX viewer, though, they believe what they are told to believe. Andsoon FOX will bring us unrelenting coverage of the "War on Christmas."

It's not by accident, this bending of reality to meet the expectations of the person getting the "news." Be it on radio, television, or in the sanctuaries of fundamentalist churches, the expectation is the news. They want to be told that liberals, gays, scientists and all of Islam is out to get them. Then they can "circle the wagons" to defend God and Country.

That's been at the heart of the success of the far right. Redefining "truth." If you can demonize your enemy, then you turn your enemy into a Godless heathen worthy of not only liberty and the pursuit of hapiness....but of life itself. That bending of anything real into something patently false is the goal of any propaganda program. And it is a required element for a corporate-fascist state.

Takeaways
  • To the fundamentalist, the only "truth" is what their leaders tell them.
  • There is no room for logic or reason.

I hate Fox TV it's the worst trash on US television. Thank God we don't get it in Thailand so I don't have to listen to the drivel. Excellent article!

You've done a very good job regarding my second statement but try reading the first one.

Brett, far less than 30 percent of Germans, Italians, or Spaniards were fascists in the 30's. Far less than 30% of Russians were Bolsheviks in 1917. On the positive side, far less than 30% of Americans were revolutionaires in 1776. In times of crisis it is the motivated minority who moves things, good or bad.

First of all, just because 30% support Bush doesn't mean that all of them are as fanatically devoted to him as you seem to suggest. Second of all, 30% is pretty small considering the things the left has been saying about us.

Posted on 11/30/2007 at 8:11:00 PM

Not all of 'em...only about, what is it, 30 percent?

Posted on 11/28/2007 at 5:11:00 PM

To say that bush is the leader of the far right is to assume that all conservatives support Bush fully and would jump off a cliff if he commanded. This is wrong. I find it funny that those of the far left choose our leaders for us then proceed to condemn them...

Remember, Anne, the magic trick of the Left is to loudly and with outrage accuse anyone to the Right of them of doing EXACTLY what the LEFT does. So, when Musall calls you "trite", you have to use your NewSpeak filter and realize that he is admitting that HE is trite--which is an obvious fact anyway.

Posted on 11/27/2007 at 11:11:00 AM

Trite, that must be your new word of the week. Last week is was suspension of this and suspension of that. I don't care what you have...I do, however, care that you find it necessary to be such a jerk. I am certain that everbody that reads your missals finds you to be just as disagreeable. Trite???? How funny, especially coming from you.

Posted on 11/21/2007 at 11:11:00 PM

Jeff, you keep trying to paint Anne as some kind of greedy, class-conscious snob. If you were the president of the United States, she would still see you in the same light. She is measuring you by the personality you display in your writing. In your writing, you sound bitter, hostile, and illogical.

Posted on 11/21/2007 at 10:11:00 PM

So trite, Anne...so I suppose if I were a billionaire, then my words would carry more weight, I would be "right" in your eyes? I'll take my success any day.

Posted on 11/21/2007 at 10:11:00 PM

Jeff. So glad to hear about your yardstick. How is it exactly that you measure your success? By how many people you can insult? Or how many wild assertions that you can make about others? As for your insurance.... I am just positive that the owner bought a condo to piss you off... because after all, what is more important than Jeff Musall? You may be hysterically happy... but your demeanor and behavior on here and with regard to others paints you has an unhappy, unsuccessful little man, that believes that he can get bigger, more important and more relevant by knocking down others. You don't look brilliant, you look malicious. You don't look successful, you look envious, and very transparent.

No reasoning?! Did you even read the comment? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot. Jeff doesn't need to disprove an argument just as long as he can call it ridiculous. I would give a million dollars to see you once, JUST ONCE, use facts and logic in your rebuttal. All that comment you just posted was was a clever-looking "Oh yeah, well your stupid".

Posted on 11/20/2007 at 8:11:00 PM

The "flaw" in your reasoning is that there is no reasoning. Maybe in your mind you can justify the lies of Mr. Bush and Co, but few others can.

Posted on 11/20/2007 at 3:11:00 PM

I am saying that the idea that the leaders of the Left attempting to decieve the public is more easily explained than the idea that the leaders of the Right are trying to decieve the public. The fingertips analogy meant that you are avoiding the point of my argument by attacking insignificant details. I understand that you are already biased against this argument but can you actually find any flaw in my reasoning?

Posted on 11/18/2007 at 7:11:00 PM

Brett..stabbing at the fingertips? What, do tell, are you talking about, and what is your point? You say that for some reason (yours) radicals on the left have more reason to lie than radicals on the right. It that another one of your "universal truths?"
