"I'll have a venti, black iced tea, sweetened with two Splendas and extra ice, please."

This is the healthier side of Starbucks that many people never venture to investigate. Many of the drinks in this fine coffee addict's establishment contain sickening amounts of calories shocking amounts of fat. Someone could think to start off the morning right by having a venti mocha something and a slice of pumpkin loaf or banana nut bread, and without even a blink of an eye they have consumed about half of their daily value of caloric intake. There are so many unhealthy options to choose from that people over look the healthier options they should consider before they order their usual six hundred calorie drink.

Venti White Chocolate Mocha

This is one of the more popular drinks from Starbucks and it packs an amazing yet sickening 620 calories and 17 grams of saturated fat, for the Venti size (Starbucks lingo translation=Large) if you get it with whipped cream. If you compare the white chocolate mocha with the Big Mac from McDonalds its astonishing because this hamburger is a mere 540 calories, and 10 grams of saturated fat. (http://app.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal?process=item&itemID=5) If you are on a two thousand a day diet, then you have just consumed 31% of your entire day's caloric intake in one drink alone. A healthier twist on this would be to reach for a smaller version, and cut out all the fat. Switch to a Grande (Starbucks lingo translation=medium), nonfat milk, no whipped cream white chocolate mocha and you drop your drink down to an amazing 350 calories and 4.5 grams of saturated fat. If you cut down even more and just go for the tall(Starbucks lingo translation=small) white chocolate mocha with nonfat milk, and no whipped cream then you are down to a mere 270 calories and 3.5 grams of saturated fat.

Takeaways
  • Ask for a light version alternative
  • Ask for no whipped cream to save up to 110 calories
  • Think twice about getting a starbucks for your child without checking the caloric content
