Poll: California Voters Give Opinion of Congress

The latest Field Poll takes a look at how the voters in California feel about the job that Congress is doing and the majority of Californians are not happy. The overall job rating now stands at 22% who approve and 64% who disapprove.

While they are critical of both the Democrats and Republicans, the Democrats do get a better rating than those on the other side of the aisle. Democrats get a disapproval rating of 58% and an approval of 34%, Republicans 70% disapproval and 20% approval and non-partisans get a 63% disapproval rating.
Of the Democratic participants in the poll, 48% approve of the job that the Democrats are doing and 37% disapprove. With the Republicans, 29% approve of the job the Republicans are doing and 53% disapprove.

As for the leader of the House of Representatives, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, her ratings have also gone down a bit and for the first time she has a higher disapproval ranting than an approval rating.

Overall, the voters in California give her a positive rating of 35% and a negative rating of 40%. Back in March of this year, she had an approval rating of 48% and a disapproval rating of 27%.

Not surprisingly, there is a big discrepancy in the opinions of the different party's. She still has a higher approval rating with the voters of her own party, with a 48% approval rating and a 26% disapproval. With the independent voters, she comes out about even with a 34% approval rating and 35% disapproval rating. But with the Republican voters it is a different picture with 19% approving and 61% disapproving, not totally unexpected at this point in time.

Concerning their own two senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, each one of them still gets a positive rating, but not as high as it has been in previous polls taken earlier in the year.

Senator Dianne Feinstein has a current approval rating of 51% and a disapproval rating of 31%. She has always had a positive rating, and although this is lower than her ratings in the previous surveys taken this year, it is just about the same as her average over the last 25 years.
