I was sitting quietly at the laptop when this title popped into my head. Now mind you, I was sitting here wondering what insightful article I could dream up to inspire people to get off their duffs and take life seriously. Doesn't it seem like some people think this gift we have called life will just go on forever? I am more aware at this ripe old age of a very young and sassy 50 years old that I am not a youngster any more. Do I feel old? Never! Do I care that my age is 50, a royal milestone in this game of life? Never! But I would be lying if I did not admit I get reflective about what I need to do yet. Simply because I do not know when the last sands will fall in that hourglass.

If I could impress one thing to people, maybe it would be to be thankful to wake up in the morning, lots of folks who have passed would probably like that opportunity for one more day. Yes you may have aches and pains, but at least you are feeling them. You may not have lots of money, but there are tons of things that money cannot buy. Please remember, despite what people have told you about money, you can't take it with you!

As you follow along here, we would like to outline some things you can do while you still can.

1. Be thankful for the lessons you have received in your life.It is what has gotten you here to this point. Believe that life is a constant learning way of thinking.

2. Touch the lives of your children in ways that will impact them forever. Teach them that empathy and compassion are never a mistake. Teach by example.

3. Make amends with that family member. Sometimes you don't want to be the first one to step up. You believe that by doing this you are admitting that the rift was your fault. Step up and be the one that decides that your connection is too important to leave old struggles keep you estranged. Ask anyone that has experienced this in their life. If they had it to do over, they would of done things differently.

4. Be generous with all that you have. Help those less fortunate. Donate good clean jackets and coats for the homeless this winter. Socks and gloves would also be appreciated.

Takeaways
  • Make every day count.
  • Don't keep putting off those important decisions.
Did You Know?
We seem to not make ourselves aware of how little time we really have. Time has a way of slipping by.

As I get older I realize what matters most to me is seeing the light in someone's eye when I have helped them in some small or big way. Great article.

I have a feeling that when we die, for most of us it will be a peaceful experience. When it happens, I will focus my sight on something beautiful . . . hopefully flowers. But, if my sight has failed I'd like to drift off peacefully snuggled up in a fuzzy warm blanket experiencing the feeling of a loved one holding my hand and it would be nice to smell something very good . . . maybe vanilla. In the mean time, I'm reaching out and contributing my time to improve and motivate other people's lives. I do belive that we all need to give back to society . . . it's rewarding and necessary.

Ditto mwtsaginaw; great article that needs promoting. mike's comment also makes me feel better in an odd sort of way. That we will survive GWB unsatched and there is hope for a better future.

Now THIS should be AC Featured Comment! 11. Just cross the street and meet your neighbors; in these northern climes, before it gets too wintry! ...... Sorry, hate to be political, but back in the early '80s (when I was in my late 20s) I pretty much figured we were all pretty much the same age, because it seemed odds on that Reagan would start a nuke war that would wipe us all out. Could still be true; Bush still has 14 months to go. And odd way of looking at things? In that way I'm just odd, I guess. But indeed, live for today. Thankee Dragonfly!
