Adobe has released its newest version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS3 brings a new level of image manipulation to the graphic artist. I have been using Photoshop since version 3.0, and it just never ceases to amaze me every time a new version is released. In this release Adobe has changed the tools available and has even made image editing and creation much simpler. However, if you are familiar with Photoshop, you will be pleased to know that the interface is just as familiar as it always was.

One of the nice new additions to the software is the smart filters. In the past if you were to apply a filter to your image, once it was applied if you did not like the result you would have to undo the applied filter. Well, this is not an issue anymore because you can apply filters, however, your original image remains untouched and the filters effects remain editable.

Black and white conversion is now much simpler and Photoshop uses sliders to control the quality of the image as well as a simpler way to create Sepia toning to add that antique picture look to your photos. Quick selection is another tool which any graphics artist will appreciate. In the past many users of Photoshop would have to laboriously use the magic wand, lasso tool, or even result to layer masking to select complex areas. Photoshop CS3 introduces the new quick selection tool. All that you have to do is start to select the area you wish to edit and the tool will complete the selection for you. I have noticed that it does this selection with an astonishing amount of accuracy.

I like photoshop, as well. It was introduced to me by a friend who was a graphic artist. It has proven invaluable, I'm sure the upgrade is great, just as you have suggested.

Excellent review as usual! Photoshop has always been a great program. I'm glad to hear they are continuing to add good features while keeping the interface the same. :)
