During the holidays, many of us go away. If you have a pet, one of the most important things that you will need to do is choose the perfect pet sitter for your animal. In some situations, this can be very difficult. Here, we will take a look how to find the right pet sitter this holiday season.

Finding the Perfect Pet Sitter #1: Someone Who's Not Going Away

Since it is the holiday season, it may be difficult to find someone who isn't going away to watch your animal. Before you even think about asking someone to sit your pet, it is a good idea to find out whether or not they are going away for the holiday first. If they tell you that they aren't going away for Thanksgiving, Christmas or whatever the holiday may be, it is then okay to ask. It is also important to consider how long you will be gone and make sure that it will not interfere with their own schedule. You don't want to be an inconvenience to anyone.

Finding the Perfect Pet Sitter #2: Someone Your Pet is Familiar With

Although some cats may be accepting of people that they are not very familiar with, dogs are not always so accepting. If your pet does not yet know the pet sitter that you have chosen, it is important to introduce them before you go away. If you know that your dog will not be able to deal with someone entering his or her home, it may be a better idea to consider a kennel instead.

Finding the Perfect Pet Sitter #3: Someone You Know is Responsible

You don't want to choose a pet sitter who will forget to feed or walk your animal as instructed. Choosing someone that you know to be very responsible is really the best way to go when you are trying to find the right pet sitter. With all of the other holiday stresses that you will need to deal with, you really do not want to worry about whether or not your pet is being well taken care of while you are gone.

This info is good but a little incomplete....try out my story about how to prepare for when you bring a pet sitter into your home to care for your animal(s).

I always shudder at the thought of having someone else care for my animals -- I'm kinda "anal" in that way. But this was an excellent article for if/when it is necessary.

This is a great article. We face this issue with trepidation every time we go away though we have found that well paid young teens/pre teens work wonders.

Great article, Jody. #3 is so important. I used to pet sit a neighbour's dog when he used to go away. I loved it! The dog was so happy to see me and my husband. Sophie
