If you're coming through Kansas City and want to visit all the neat places in town, you'll find lots to see. From the Country Club Plaza to Crown Center; from all the jazz and barbecue joints to the city views, Kansas City has much to offer...Yes, you can also shop in lots of high class places in town, but some of the coolest items in any city can be found in thrift stores.

Right under our noses are thrift stores like the Goodwill, Council of the Blind thrift stores and others that contain treasures that often turn out to be real treasures. We've read enough stories or seen enough people in the news that bought an item at a thrift store and it turned out to be worth thousands.

There are people who shop at thrift stores for certain types of antique dishes and glasses, cups and other types of items that they end up selling on Ebay for hundreds of dollars. Others find women's purses, antique hats and scarves that turn out to be worth lots of money, too.

Whether it's for reselling or to find that certain something for your house, thrift stores are nothing to be ashamed of. Kansas City has its share of thrift stores and three of them are within minutes of each other in the Waldo/Santa Fe area. The fourth thrift store is located in Kansas, and worth the trip. Rather than write about ALL the thrift stores in Kansas City, I'd live to tell you about four of my favorites.

Goodwill at 89th & Wornall
8929 Wornall Road, (816) 444-5776

This is my all-time favorite thrift store in Kansas City. It is kept clean, the help is good, and the items sold at this thrift store include both new, used and slightly damaged items. They have everything from furniture to frames to hard to find items like odd end decorative pieces and holiday decorations.

If you love books, videos, movies and CDs like I do, this thrift store has the best selection I've seen. I've often bought and resold many items from this store. The books are only $.49 for paperbacks and $.89 for hardbacks. You can't beat that.

You can find lots of fun stuff in thrift stores. Kansas City has a nice share of thrift stores from which to choose!
