How would you like to have 8 children all under the age of 4? That's what happened to Jon and Kate Gosselin when their already 4 year old twins welcomed 6 new brothers and sisters in to the world on May 10th 2004.

For those of you who are wondering whether Kate got pregnant naturally or had a little help, Kate was found to have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Both pregnancies were the result of modern science. As a result Jon and Kate have 8 healthy children: Cara and Mady are 7, Alexis, Aaden, Collin, Leah, Hannah, and Joel are now 3.

Since most people are curious as to how a couple could handle so many children at once, the Discovery Health Channel filmed the couple doing day to day activities. I found this helpful in my own life because I have a disabled child and organization is key just like it is for Kate. Kate is a self proclaimed germaphobic who cleans non-stop. I don't go nearly as far as she does although I like my house nice and tidy. Kate admits to washing her Kitchen floor by hand 3 times per day. With as much cleaning as Kate does the little ones have to learn how to be independent at times.

I watched an episode where Kate tried to hire a cleaning lady so that she could have some time to play with the kids. Unfortunately, Kate is so compulsive about her cleaning that finding a little bit of dust was enough to fire the cleaning lady and she was back to doing the job herself.

The only thing I don't like to watch is how Kate is always picking at her husband. The poor man works double shifts (I guess he would have to to keep up with the bills for such a large family) and then comes home to help out with the kids. Of course it is stressful for Kate to be tending to 8 children all day long, but there really isn't a need to attack her husband. I hope watching the episodes herself will let her see how negative her behavior is at time so that she can work on changing it.

So what I have learned is that people can in general handle what life throws their way even if it is really hard. There is that saying that God never gives you more than you can handle, and I have to agree that that is true. Good Luck Jon and Kate plus 8!

Takeaways
  • Kate Gosselin gave birth to twins then sextuplets.
  • Jon Gosselin works two shifts to keep up with his families expenses.
  • The Gosselin's life has be documented on the Discovery Health Channel.

Did you all know that when they go on their speaking engagements that tickets are sold to the event and that at the end they pass the hat for "love contributions"? Is this all declared? Soon there will be a book to hawk. Oh, I didn't mention that at the events they rake in tons of money selling signed autographed copies of the family picture for $10 a pop. Who keeps track of all this income? Perhaps the State of PA and the IRS should take a look.

Jon and Kate make $65,000 per episode. Jodi and Beth [both unpaid] play major roles on the show. When production wanted to pay Jodi, Kate said that no one could be paid except for J and K. The real reason for no big carnival for the tups this year was that there were no friends to come to the party because K has pi$$ed them all off. I read that all participants in Reality shows are paid SAG daily rates. Do the children's individual payments go into trust for them for say their educations or do J&K keep it all? Do they declare all the freebies that they acknowledge on tv because the IRS considers this BARTERING and it is TAXABLE. I think TLC and DHC need to be investigated for tax purposes. Do the hours that they film conform to Child Labor Laws? These children neeed protection from this set of UNFIT parents.

This child cannot be excused because she has "issues" with having so many other children in the house. I think she already has her spot carved out in the "order" and knows that little or nothing will actually happen if she shows herself. I mean, the whole world is watching her (which she already LOVES) and she knows that all she will get is "time out" or a scolding. Nothing to lose with that. She is a major player in a power struggle and one of the little girls is right behind her. I don't remember her name but every time something comes up, she sets up a howl - sounds like a siren - and even in "time out" she screams on and on. That sort of behavior needs to be dealt with & none of them are too young to get the point. My sister had a child who loved to cry. My sister said the child was "frustrated" or "disappointed" but I just called it MAD (excuse me, in these days ANGRY). My sister said to get over it - the child, after all, was just "blowing off steam" and I finally told h

Ok, you have to stop and think... how your life is now. Now think of you, your husband, 8 kids and how you would feel. How crazy, and stressful that would be. Many people come down on Kate, saying she is hard on her husband, her kids..but dont you ever get that way with your husband or child? Of course you do!!! And kate does to... she just has it times 9 and it is on tv! I know NONE of us would look any better than her if it was our family on there. You have to give mad props to this women. And to those who say... Maddy has as attitude issue... and the little kids get blamed for everything and get in trouble for everything. Have you thought that maybe jon and kate reconize maddy has an attitude issue... so they are trying to prevent it with the little ones? Maybe maddy got away with alot... or was a little spoiled. I think she might be trying to prevent it with the small kids. So before you judge her for how she raises her kids or treats her husband.. think about the times when you

I just love watching the show and somtimes I wished I could help them. They on one side are sacrificing their youth , if you all will notice how young from the begining to now. They Jon & kate did not run from this responsibility. My question is , I cant seem to find out where the grandparents are? i KNOW IF i HAD THESE GRANDCHILDREN I WOULD BE THERE IN A HEART BEAT UNDER ANY CIRRCUMSTANCE! lOVE TO Jon andKate And their family

I love this show however it does seem Maddy get'saway with much worse behavior than the six little ones. If they sneeze the wrong way its into time out. Kate rarely addresses Mady's inappropriate outburst of temper. One time on the program Kate found a knob to a drawer in one of the little kid's room room and screamed at them that she when she only had the two girls they never broke anything. Both Jon and Kate sometimes seem to blame the six babies for things wrong in their life.

I love this show! I know the relationship between Jon and Kate can be rough to watch sometimes. But they are a real couple and come on people, they have 8 children under the age of 8! give her a break. organization is what she does best and it is needed with a family of this size with so many being so young. I give both Jon and Kate so much credit for continually standing up to challenges and obstacles. What am amazing family, i love each gosselin child. I watch whenever the show is on and know what child is which and who is moody or happy or shy, but they are all unique and still have to be recognized for competing for their parents attention amung 7 other children. Gosselins, although i may not agree with all your family practices, i am not rasing 8 children so i am not one to judge. Keep up the good work, your children seem great and happy!

I love this show. I understand the comments in regard to Kate's treatment or apparent treatment of Jon but on camera they seem to accept the behavior of each other. In an early show they did explain that their "communication" is poor but they are communicating. There also appears to be a genuine love among the whole family which does show through. As the children get older and more able to take care of themselves, hopefully they will not all throw temper tantrums like Mady does but you have to remember she was one of two followed by one of eight and before the babies were born appears to have had alot of attention from the parents which of course was lost when the babies came. I hope this family and marriage makes it.

The one thing that is missing on this show is discipline of the that brat Maddy. To make excuse after excuse for her behaviour is horrible. She needs to be punished for kicking, stomping and having such a nasty attitude. Can you imagine what kind of teenager this will be? And if your 6 year olds are watching beware!
