With so many airlines to choose from, it's difficult to know which is the best. Many times, price is the ultimate decision maker. Others, it's simply the availability of a seat. I recently took a flight from the Midwest to the Southwest and had the pleasure of flying on Southwest Airlines. This article will describe my experience with Southwest.
I flew from Indianapolis, Indiana to Las Vegas, Nevada, and then back again. With technology as it is today, I was able to check in and print my boarding pass within 24 hours of my flight, as with many other airlines. Seating is not assigned so checking in online early put me in Group A, which means I would basically have my pick of seats on the plane. Group B and Group C would board after A, in order.
Boarding was quick and painless and I chose a window seat in the middle of the plane for the first flight. The flight was completely full and once the usual routine of flight attendants demonstrating where the exits were and how to use the emergency devices was over, the plane took off in a quick and smooth manner.
My flight was only about three hours in length. During this time, passengers were offered peanuts and pretzels, beverages and a boxed snack that included a packet of dried fruit, Chips Ahoy cookies, and a Snack Pack of crackers and cheese. All of which were very tasty.
On this flight, the noise level was incredibly loud. I sat next to my husband but was unable to hear what he was saying to me. Later, I learned that this was likely due to the fact that we were sitting right behind the wing and near the engine. I made a mental note to pick a different seat on the way back.
Landing was quick, painless and exceptionally smooth.
The return flight was basically the same as the first. A staff full of friendly, helpful people, tasty snacks, and again I was boarding in Group A so I got my pick of seats. This time, I chose a seat as far back as possible and again at the window. This time the noise level was greatly reduced and I was able to chat with my husband and enjoy watching a DVD on my laptop, with earphones of course.
