Our 2007 Halloween Costume: Bob Barker and Barker's Beauty

My husband and I were a little stumped when trying to come up with a creative and inexpensive idea for our latest Halloween costume. As we were driving home one evening, just a week before Halloween, it dawned on us: Bob Barker and one of Barker's Beauties! We both loved "The Price is Right" growing up, and with Bob Barker having retired this year, the timing was perfect.

The only items we had to purchase for this couples costume were wigs. We found a grey male wig for my husband and a long, voluptuous wig for me. We had a great suit from the 70s, borrowed from my father-in-law, for Bob Barker's outfit. Using a glass flower, we created a long, skinny microphone by wrapping the flower stem in duct tape and covering the top with black pantyhose. With some cash hanging out of his pocket, Bob Barker was ready to go.

For Barker's Beauty I was able to use an old bridesmaid dress (for more ideas on how to recycle old bridesmaid dresses check this out!) for my outfit. I wore a long wig and plenty of make-up. My nails sparkled in hot pink and flashy shoes (also previously used for a wedding) adorned my feet. I affixed a piece of crystal to a tray and printed off a price tag from the internet. On the tag I placed a $199 price to be held in front of the piece of crystal.

We wanted to incorporate our 15 month old son into the costume as well. We found a sample "The Price is Right" nametag online and printed it. We then put our son's name on it. We took a white t-shirt of his and turned it inside out. Using permanent markers, we created an "I Love Plinko" shirt for him. Now our son was ready to "come on down" to contestants row as a Price is Right contestant.

Overall we had a blast appearing at the annual Halloween party in our "The Price is Right" game show themed Halloween costumes. Now we are ready to start thinking about next year . . .
