Parents Boycott The Golden Compass Movie

Parents are circulating emails asking that the movie The Golden Compass be boycotted due to its anti God message. Phillip Pullman of England is the writer of the trilogy called His Dark Materials. Phillip Pullman, a proud atheist, is said to plan to bring
his trilogy to screen beginning with the first installment on December 7, 2007. The trilogy is said to get darker and darker as the story progresses and in the third installment a boy and girl kill God. Pullmans objective appears to be to promote atheism while bashing the Christian faith. Pullman has been quoted as saying "I don't profess any religion; I don't think its possible there is a God." In 1993 he was quoted as saying "My books are about killing God."

This story is not to be confused with The Chronicles of Narnia. The Chronicles of Narnia was based on Christianity. The Golden Compass appears to be the total opposite of the Narnia series. One pagan character is reported as saying, "Every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling."

There is growing concern that parents will take their children to see this movie without understanding the content. Parents who will love the watered down fist movie from the trilogy will buy books and materials supporting Pullman and the atheist movement then will realize the darkness when they return for the second and third installments. The worst parts of the first installment will be played down to keep from making Christian parents angery. They want your cash. They also want your unsuspecting children to read their books and take in the anti religious undertones. I expect we will see books appearing in stores just in time for Christmas. More than 15 million books have been sold nationwide. It appears that Hollywood is once again flaunting their anti moral values and shoving it down our throats by advertising to our children.

How many times do I have to say this....BAD BAD BAD movie! and mmmmmmm you are under a cloak of darkness my friend who has been deceived. That is the point..reading too much into something and finding out it is evil in nature will set you on the righteous path and you will see the move for what it really is...a counter to a better movie...Narnia (which, by the way is biblically based and one would only know this if one read the bible to begin with). Peace

Hi Melissa :) I haven't allowed my kids to read Harry Potter books at all. Although I absolutely love fantasies, I don't think that the darkness of witchcraft is necessary to entice or exercise our children's imagination. There are other forms of fantasy stories that can do that. I am glad that you backed away from the series. All I knew was that HP was dead and was happy about that. the one thing that saddened me was the fact that so many people were actually torn over his death. Makes you wonder why people put so much heart into it and authors seem to do it on purpose. Craziness, I say!!! I started reading on Pullman's trilogy for the sake of being a critic LOL. I don't have time and I just threw the book away. I read the first few chapters and it was quite intriguing but being a Christian as yourself, I am sure you can feel the pulling of other spirits. God bless and thanks for this article.

You reveal so much when making your case. Of what are you afraid? I only hope you can control yourself when you learn of Pullman's gay angels. Fictitious and from a parallel universe but obviously a targetted slight on you personally.

How can this guy say he is an athiest....he is writing books about killing God....in order to kill God you have to believe there is one!! Sounds like he is just doing it for publicity...which he is getting lots of!

wow, Faith, you sound like a real sweet Christian there, don't you? tell me how did you get here? I agree, some of the previous posters remarks and name calling were uncalled for, but you just stoop to their level when you behave childishly yourself. You sound rather hateful. Maybe you should take a note from the writer of this article. when responding to others comments, she has been very gracious and kind, earning a little respect from me, for sure.

OK, two small points: If you watch the film, that doesn't make you an atheist. If you don't watch, that doesn't mean your faith in God will be any better. The two are totally separate.

I think it's a little naive to think that anyone who had strong faith could suddenly have their world rocked by a very good children's novel. I read this book at a young age and don't feel as though my faith has been harmed. In fact it's one of my favorites, up there with Harry Potter, and The Chronicles of Narnia. I wonder why parents with so much faith in God have so little belief in the strength of their children's.

but isn't the job of every parent to protect their children? i don't know why everyone is talking like their own parents didn't tell them "no" every now and then. even though my parents trust me whole heartedly, their JOB as a parent is my udder protection. therefore, although i would not see this movie if you paid me, my mother would not let me either. and why are you supporters so fired up about us not seeing it? why don't you go see it, and let us not. informing others is not a crime, so i do find interest in what you all have to say. but as for you swaying me, it's going to take a lot more than your opinion of the book to convince me. pullman has been quoted exclaiming his hate for god, so anything this man has any connections with will not be on my CHRISTmas list.
