Mel Tillis, Vince Gill, and Ralph Emery were inducted into the Country Music's Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 28. The induction ceremony began with Randy Scruggs singing, "Amazing Grace".
Kyle Young, Country Music Foundation's director and host of this year's Hall of Fame induction ceremony highlighted the accomplishments of each Hall of Fame honoree. The program also contained music, performed by notable artists, between biographical segments and the presenting of medallions.
Ralph Emery was the first inductee to be honored at this year's ceremony. Among his accomplishments, Young noted his fame as a late night disc-jockey and television host. Emery acted as a late night disc-jockey for WSM, a Nashville AM radio station that was able to be heard throughout the central and southern parts of the United States.
Kyle Young noted that Marty Robbins was Emery's most regular guest. Additionally, Emery brought new and unknown country singers to his show, which gave them national attention. Emery also hosted a television show Nashville Network from 1983-1993.
During the segment of the ceremony honoring Ralph Emery's contributions to country music, Paul Malo performed "You Gave Me a Mountain," and Con Humley performed "Since I Fell for You."
E. W. Wendall, Country Music's Hall of Fame member, had the honor of placing the medallion around Emery's neck before Emery delivered his acceptance speech.
Young went on to recognize Vince Gill's contributions to country music. Vince Gill has recorded 20 albums and has had 40 hits land on the United States Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Some of Gill's popular singles have included, "Don't Want Me" in 1985, "With You" in 1986, "Let's Do Something" in 1987, "Everybody's Sweetheart" in 1988, "When I Call Your Name" in 1990, "I Still Believe in You" in 1993, "You Better Think Twice" in 1995, and the 2000 hit, "Feels Like Love."
Gill also hosted the Country Music Awards from 1992-2003 and won a Grammy in 2004 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
