Ron Paul, former Libertarian Candidate of 88' was formerly known as a long shot for the presidency, but as he passes up John McCain in fund raising and cash on hand it has made some political experts take a second glance as Dr. Paul sets his sights for surpassing his last quarter fund raising of over 5 million to reaching his new goal of 12 million dollars.

While I was working in Washington D.C. on Capitol Hill as an Intern for a Congressman, I took some time out of my busy schedule to meet some Congressmen who I felt I shared similar political beliefs with. So I got on the phone and called two offices, Congressman Flake and Congressman Paul and arranged appointments to get my picture taken with them and perhaps sit down and talk with them. My first appointment was with Congressman Flake and right after I was to head to Congressman Paul's office. Well as soon as I got to Congressman Flakes office the voting bell rang signalling that all congressmen should head to the House of Representatives floor and vote on whatever bill is being considered.

So to my disappointment Congressman Flake's secretary came out and said there was no time and that we would have to reschedule. Well I figured even though the bell rang I met as well run over to Congressman Pauls office and see if I can catch a quick picture with him. To my surprise even though he was late, he now only agreed to take a picture with me, he actually sat down and talked to me for over 5 minutes and gave me a gift, leaving him about 2 minutes to get to the floor.

I was obviously impressed and very grateful after being turned away at Flake's office. But what impressed me even more than him taking the time to see me was what he told me. He said in America we have a natural love for freedom, but it can't stop there, we need freedom in all areas of our lives. We need the freedom in all areas of our lives, and our government is there to protect those rights, not take them. He told me that Government's prime responsibility was to protect liberty, property rights, and life. Government doesn't have a right to our life, but a responsibility to protect it!

Another great article. I'm glad to see that you were not disenchanted when you met with him. I face to face can tell you a lot about a man sometimes.
