The Religious Controversy of The Golden Compass Starring Nicole Kidman
Anti-Religious Movie Geared Toward Children
A new movie set to be released December 7th, 2007 called "The Golden Compass" is stirring up a lot of debates. The creator Phillip Pullman is an atheist who is using this movie to draw kids in to his beliefs. The movie is geared toward children and is currently written out to be aI for one am a Christian who values Biblical beliefs, but even if you don't I think you are going to seriously consider not allowing your children to watch this movie after you read a little more about it. For instance, in the movie the children set out to kill God, and when they do they go about life doing whatever they want. Do you want your children to learn that they can kill whoever is in authority over them so that they can be free to do whatever they want? That would create utter chaos. Plus children who are not taught to respect authority are usually the ones who grow up without any fear of police, judges, or the law.
If you Google the synopsis of the book version you will read such topic as castration and female circumcision. Whether these concepts enter the movie series I don't know, but why would you want to take your kids to learn something like that. The author is hoping that the December 7th release will get kids to ask for the books for Christmas. So whatever is omitted from the movie will end up in front of your children in the form of a book. What bothers me most is that they are going to deceptively advertise this movie as a kid movie. They want it to be the next Harry Potter. They even got Nicole Kidman to star in the film.
Catholic League President Bill Donohue expressed his concern to Fox news interviewer John Gibson. Donohue condemned the book and was very troubled that parents who view the advertisements for the movie will take their kids to see it. Then they will be duped in to buying the books which are not only anti-Catholic but also promote atheism.
