Photoshop's installation also checks your computer for any devices that it may be able to use related to image editing such as printers and scanners. The ability for Photoshop to detect and set a device for immediate use through the Photoshop program allows the user a broader range of functionality and more settings control. This also cuts down on our work as it is simpler to use one program and not have to exit out of or save the Photoshop product and enter another for scanning or printing.
Many companies such as Canon, Hewlett Packard and Epson are seeing that device drivers that are compatible with Photoshop CS3 are a must especially for printers and scanners boasting professional photographic capabilities. Having a printer or scanner that can integrate with Photoshop CS3 means less hassles for the user and improves the quality of the image editing process as well as the final product.
My printer is a newer Hewlett Packard Photosmart D7360 that prints some very nice photographs with great quality. It uses more than three ink cartridges for better color reproduction and has plenty of features. The Photoshop CS3 program has no problem with any of the settings and can do anything it wants with the printer and change any of the settings.
Opening the Print menu under the File menu will bring up a page that has a lot of basic settings for printers. It also has settings for things like printing calibration and crop bars on the outside of the image for use in cutting and printing that professionals use. These settings are inside Photoshop CS3 and not available from the printer software but the printer software is also available through Photoshop.
