While browsing the dog collar section of my favorite pet store I discovered dozens of fancy dog collars that I would have loved to buy for my dog, but the prices were way over my budget. Upon inspecting these fancy collars complete with jewels and other flashy décor, I decided I could easily decorate a plain dog collar myself.

Purchasing an ordinary dog collar and applying fancy embellishments can save a great deal of money, and best of all, it will be a one-of-a-kind item not found in any pet store. The following information explains how to decorate a dog color to make it as fancy as the expensive varieties sold in stores, and for just a few dollars in embellishments you can do it yourself.

Before Beginning

Before you begin to decorate your dog's collar using the following ideas, choose glue that will keep the embellishments permanently in place. Ordinary hot glue and super glue aren't the best choices for decorating a dog collar. Choose epoxy glue or Gorilla Glue. You can find Gorilla Glue online or at most discount, hardware, or craft supply stores. Choose the most appropriate type of Gorilla Glue for all of your special craft projects and repair needs. I haven't found another type of glue more durable than Gorilla Glue, and it's well worth the cost.

Faux Gems and Jewels

Flat backed gems and jewels found in the craft department of your local discount store, and those sold at major craft stores can add a lot of sparkle to an ordinary dog collar. Glue small sparkling faux diamonds and gems to a cheap nylon dog collar, and turn it into something that looks far more expensive. For the price of a bag of inexpensive faux gems, you can turn your dog's neckwear into something that looks exceptionally fancy and far more pricey than it actually is.

What a fun idea! The manager of our bead store made a beautiful collar for his Jack Russell Terrier out of beads. Very stylish!

Will be sending this to my daughter in Australia, lol, My doggy doesn't go for bling, laughing, I have all sorts of good chewy things to go under the tree for her though.

I'll have to pass this on to my dog-lover friend. Not that I don't love them, I just don't have one anymore.
