Removing Stains from Cotton and Linen Fabrics: Soaking and More Solutions

Stains: We hate them, and they're hard to remove from our linen tablecloths or anything else that's cotton. So what do you do when these problems occur? You can either take it to a professional dry cleaner or try to remove the stains yourself. Here are some solutions for you to try to remove the stain yourself.

To remove stains such as soft drink, alcoholic beverages, ketchup and chili sauce, you'll want to soak the fabric in cool water for thirty minutes or longer. Wash with soap detergent and rinse.

For red wine, juice, fruit, coffee, and tea wash in hot water. You may also try to bleach out the stain with lemon juice and salt. Let the fabric dry in the sun. Another way to get out red wine would be to soak it in cold water immediately and wash the fabric as soon as possible.

To remove oil-based stains such as butter, mayonnaise, margarine, and of course oil; you'll need to try the fabric first. If the stain doesn't come out then try rubbing soap or detergent into the fabric and rinse in warm water.

For chocolate stains, you'll need to soak the fabric in cool water for thirty minutes or longer then rub in soap or detergent. If it doesn't work, you might want to try grease remover.

In order to remove wax and paraffin wax stains from your tablecloth you should try scraping it off. Then put some tissues both over and under the tablecloth. Using an iron, press gently on the stained area then sponge on grease remover and rinse.

For cosmetic and mustard stains rub detergent into the stain and rinse. If the stain is still there, repeat the procedure as many times as needed to remove the stain.

To remove protein stains such as milk, eggs, ice cream, baby food, formula, blood, pudding, cheese sauce, et cetera can be removed by soaking the fabric in cold water and detergent. Rinse in bold water and then wash it as you normally would in warm water. If necessary, Repeat the steps.

If you are trying to remove grass stains, try sponging it with alcohol or rub sap into the stain and wash in hot water.

If you have to remover chewing gum try rubbing it with an ice cube to harden the gum. Then rub it until it falls off.
