October 31, 2007 -- After a successful launch a few days ago of their sixth major release of the Mac OS X operating system, Apple Inc is being sued for infringement. The suit comes from 38 year old Leo Pard, a cab driver from the Bronx. Pard claims the name Leopard is a derivative of his full name and taxi service and that "it's a slap in the face and they will not get away with it."

Pard, who isn't a stranger to filing lawsuits, is being represented again by Frank N. Stein of Brown Finkle and Stein, who he had used in 2005 when his cab was hit by a MTA bus. Pard who won an undisclosed amount from the MTA, was able to move to the Bronx with his wife and two children and start "Leopard Taxi Service" where he currently has 2 drivers that work for him.

An Apple representative who wishes to remain off record says the suit is frivolous and that their attorneys will go after it will everthing.
It seems that everyone is always out to get Apple. In 2001 Cisco company filed a court lawsuit against the Apple Company for U.S. trademark infringement on the AT&T/Cingular iPhone name, because it received the iPhone trademark when they acquired the company Infogear.

Residents that we spoke to in the Bronx could only laugh but a few said if they had the chance that they would have done it.

Pard and attorney Stein remain confident of the outcome of the suit but doesn't wish to express how to tip the favor over to Apple.

Amazing. People will sue over anything. I can certainly understand how the guy won a lawsuit when his cab was actually hit by a bus but the name Leopard is not a derivative of HIS name but the common name for an animal. If he wins this, I will truly be shocked. Hope you do a follow-up or give me a "heads up" if you notice a decision in this.
