The family Thanksgiving dinner isn't something that you can invite just anyone to spend with you, though.
Here are some things to consider when deciding if your significant other should meet your family, and some tips if you decide to take them down into holiday drudgery with you.
1. Age difference is always important to note. Your parents might not know, for example, that you're dating a woman twice your age, and it might shock them if the date in question happens to play bridge with your mother.
I'm kidding, of course, as this is unlikely; bridge isn't as popular of a game as it used to be, sadly. An older date, however, can be very disconcerting to a family on Thanksgiving, especially if the meal plan didn't involve dealing with your date's osteoperosis-onset broken hip.
2. Is your significant other extremely obese? If so, you can still invite him or her, but you might want to bring more food, or at least a large sack of bread for your date to fill up on. There's no bigger downer than a lack of turkey on Thanksgiving, and a fat guy can rip through a turkey buffet with the ferocity of an angry wolverine on smack.
On the other hand, if you're obese and you're family's obese, take the opposite precaution; insist that your boyfriend or girlfriend wear a bright orange vest to Thanksgiving dinner to avoid being accidentally ingested. Better safe than sorry--accidentally consumed spouses account for more than 150% of all holiday disappearances. I know, because I read it on a .org website.
