Dumbledore is Gay

Does it Really Matter?

Recently author J. K. Rowling, while appearing at Carnegie Hall in New York, announced that one of the characters in her series of popular children's books that follow the adventures of Harry Potter was homosexual. This news was met with support,
stunned silence, and ambivalence from the news media and the parents of young readers. Some people claim that Rowling's assertion that the character of Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was homosexual as a "wonderful stride" toward tolerance of homosexuals. Myself, as a parent and a reader of the Harry Potter series of books, think that it is such a non-issue that people are bound to make a lot of something out of nothing.

I have read each and every book and condone the reading of the books and the watching of the movies as harmless entertainment. I am a devout Christian that believes that movies, books, television, and radio programs are all designed to be entertaining, and in some cases enlightening. Harry Potter does not make my children want to dabble in the black magic arts. Harry Potter does not make them want to practice witchcraft. What it does do is very simple, it teaches them a very good moral lesson about life. There are things in life that can be very scary but if you are determined to walk the path of righteousness nothing will harm you. What better message could we convey to our children?
