Hospitals can be scary places, and sometimes a handmade teddy bear or blanket can help a patient's moral. There are many charitable ways you can contribute your crafts to the world. There are groups that make crafts for children with cancer, babies, injured veterans, and other people facing serious illnesses. You can find groups that organize donations of specific types of crafts, or you can contribute your crafts directly to your local hospital. Check with the hospital first to see what they might need.

Crafts for Charity - Premature Babies

Preemies, babies born too early, need knitted caps and blankets to keep them warm. You can find patterns for preemie hats and blankets online. Preemies may also need specially made diapers, booties, and clothes, because regular baby clothes will not fit them. This site, Bev's Country Cottage, offers patterns to all sorts of preemie clothing. Care Wear is a website for volunteers who wish to make items for babies in hospitals. They also have a list of hospitals organized by state. It may be difficult to find a hospital near you that needs these items through searching the internet. Your local hospital may be in need but may not have posted this need online. Check with your local hospitals to see if they are in need of items for preemies. If not, look for hospitals near you that specialize in neonatal care.

Crafts for Charity - Children with Cancer

Cancer is scary for anyone to face, but especially sad in children. You can show these patients your care by making blankets, chemo caps, and teddy bears. Any crafted item can help bring a little more color into their world. Head Huggers is a group dedicated to making hats for chemotherapy patients. Their website lists patterns for cute and fashionable hats. If you would like to send a soft friend to comfort a sick child, look at this easy pattern for a simple bear. You can use fabrics like flannel, which are soft and warm, but easy to work with.

Crafts for Charity - Veterans' Hospitals

Your crafts can help brighten any hospital patient's room.
