If you're not the sort of person to sit the house all day on Thanksgiving, and you live in Dallas or Fort Worth, there are lots of activities to do around town.

The Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day Run

Sponsored by the Dallas YMCA, the Turkey Trot offers Dallasites a chance to burn a few calories in their choice of an eight or three mile run. The event, which benefits Dallas youth, has been called the largest Thanksgiving day event in America. The eight mile race begins at 9 am, and the 3 mile fun run/walk begins at 9:15. Mail-in registration is $18 per person, walk-in registration is $20 per person. Registration on the day of the race is $25. Dogs can be registered for $10. The run takes place in the Dallas City Hall Plaza at 1500 Marilla. (214) 954-0500

The Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Game

If you're a sports fan, instead of vegetating in front of the television to watch the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving day game, you could actually go there. This is a particularly great Thanksgiving day activity for single guys and sports loving families. The only downside to going to the game is that you'll have to plan the event a couple of years in advance. At the time of this writing, the entire 2007 and 2008 seasons are sold out. However, if you check the Dallas Cowboys ticketExchange, you may be able to get a ticket to a sold out game. Use extreme care when purchasing tickets on the second hand market. The Dallas Cowboys recommends that you purchase tickets only from their authorized resellers.
