Vigoro 30-inch Extra-Wide Yard Rake Review

Recently I wrote the article "How to Rake Leaves Without Hurting Your Back." I had just been out shopping for a new yard rake, so I'd seen some of the products on the market firsthand. Raking leaves isn't my favorite task every year, so I splurged and bought a new piece of
equipment. I didn't choose one of the ergonomic models, though I was tempted in order to help save my back. Instead, I bought a bigger, man-size yard rake. Read this informative review and find out what I think of the Vigoro 30-inch Extra-Wide Rake, and if it's more rake than a woman can handle!

Product Description
As soon as I spotted the 30-inch, extra-wide rake, I was impressed. Comparing it to my rake at home was like pairing up Charles Atlas and Twiggy. My yard rake is puny, with a skinny plastic head attached to a wooden handle. Vigoro attached a wide, heavy plastic head to a lightweight fiberglass handle, and, added a cushioned strip.

My rake has long, thin, flexible tines that break off when they're put under too much pressure. Vigoro's man-size rake has a 30-inch head that's made of heavy duty plastic. The tines are ten to twelve inches long, and are 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide.

The ends of the tines are connected together with "V" shaped pieces that stand out two inches. The connected tines keep the rake from clogging up with leaves, sticks and debris.

Price and Availability
I found my Vigoro 30-inch Extra-Wide Yard Rake at Home Depot. I believe it cost around $15.99 excluding tax.

I Put It to The Test
I knew with the first swipe I took with the extra wide rake that this tool was going to cut my leaf raking time in half, at least. I was able to rake up a big pile of leaves in no time! What a deal! The connected tines did help keep the yard rake from clogging up which helped considerably. That saved me from having to stop and clean out the tines from time to time.

I bought the Vigoro 30 inch rake about 7 years ago. The plastic cracked today and it is falling apart. I will take it back to home depot w/o the long lost receipt and see just how good the 25 year warranty is. Stay tuned

Great review. This rake probably gets better results than just running over the leaves with a lawn mower. ;)

I'm just glad I don't have to mess with this. The maintenance men do it. Yeah!

Great review! Since we built our house in the middle of two acres of oaks and rocks, I've come to despise raking leaves. My husband didn't want the leaves raked, as he felt they help hold the soil. So I let them go till they got so deep I couldn't walk in them, then started raking and ruined my thumb in one season. We talked about buying a vacuum-mulcher, but felt it was too big to get through the trees. I may try that rake, but with a 25-year warranty, it will probably last longer than I will.
