Grass
One of the most popular types of bocce courts is grass. Many players set up these courts in their backyard. The playing characteristics of these bocce courts is largely determined by the length of the grass. Obstructions such as holes and hills can also play a role in the game.
Dirt
One of the next types of bocce courts is dirt. These courts are usually enclosed with wooden boards that are approximately six inches tall. These boards are used to mark off the boundaries of the bocce courts. The court should also be surrounded by a drainage system. This will keep the court flat and prevent it from collecting excess moisture.
Pavement
There are also players who setup bocce courts on pavement. This type of court will allow the ball to roll easily. However, players have to be extra careful on bocce courts located on pavement. If you don't throw with the right amount of power, the ball will end up way off target.
Carpet
One of the next types of bocce courts is carpet. These courts are usually used for indoor games. You will need an area large enough to accommodate these bocce courts. Also, there will likely be obstructions such as furniture when playing on carpet indoors. Therefore, you will probably want to clear the room before you start playing.
Beach
One of the final types of bocce courts is the beach. Players have recently begun playing bocce on the sand at the beach. These bocce courts are extremely unpredictable. It will be extremely difficult to tell how your balls will roll whenever you're playing the game on sand.
