The Fragile Web

Struggling with the Illusion of Control

The illusion of control is fragile, like the spider 's web. I work very hard to design and maintain my web, until the moment the wind of fate blows me into the the atmosphere. In this moment I do not know where I will land.

While doing some reflective thinking yesterday, I went to view a local pond. I was reminded that there are times when the winds of fate blow, and like the beads of water in the pond, we have no choice but travel in that direction. As, the geese came up to my car,
I ignored the sign that reads "do not feed the geese." I found myself empathizing too much with the birds. I felt the fall breeze in my face and wondered what winter would bring. (Literatively and figuratively.) A seagull passed over my head and I know that he had no choice but to ride the wind that lifted him and I wondered how he felt. Does he think he should be somewhere else? Where would he be if the wind hadn't lifted him? Maybe, like Jonathan Livingston Seagull he is happy to be weightless.

Fate allows the grackles and duckings to scoop up crumbs between the geese. As, I watched them retreat with bits of my illegal pita bread, I can't but wonder if there is not a bigger wind at work under my wings. Then, suddenly, the sparrows jump in to grab at bits int he cluster. Certainly, if the Great Wind provides for the sparrow, he will provide for those created in it's image?

I can't escape the changing of the seasons. I know that winter is not far off, but I cannot foretell how long it will be... Do I have enough reserves stored to withstand a cold winter? How does the sparrow survive the winter?

A spider crawls across windshield. There have been many messages from spiders this month. The biggest lesson has been not to shed my pearl before swine. Someone, literally thought I was talking to spiders. Yes, my sister Arcane was turned into a spider, because she a had too much hubris. LOL. The man on the other side of the desk did not appreciate my my humor, and told me to contact the employees assistance program. (Evidently, he was asleep when they taught Greek History.)

I am so glad to hear your spider story. I love it. I think the spiders are big big message about change in my life. They have actually forced me to write (spiders are the keepers of language.) I have prayed to have the time and like I always say be careful what you pray for, it never comes quite the way we visuaize it. LOL. I will have to read your pieces when I have a minute. You must be one of the spider blessings. I have come accross several gals whose mother used to dance with me lately... God is weaving my future with my past and aloowing the boken peices to me mended. Thanks again.

My pastor frequently tells the story of how he thinks God spoke to him via a Spider's Web. I mean, not audibly...but you know what I mean. About how we are the spider and God builds a community around us, perfect with each little part, like a spider web. ANd how as a pastor it wasn't his web/church to build with work but God's. There's a picture of a web on every program now...haha. Spiders are offering profound messages to us left and right, huh?
