Holidays are such an important part of each countries tradition along with supporting its culture. Some of the most popular holidays on earth either revolve around the Christian belief such as Easter and Christmas however there are other popular ones such as Independence Day, New Year Day, and Valentines and so on. Then there are strange and weird holidays that really have no meaning besides the mere purpose to have an excuse to celebrate something. Have you ever wondered what is going on around the world today?

Today marks the 306th day of the year!
Here is what is going on today around the world:

1. United States:
*All Souls' Day: This is a Catholic holiday otherwise known as Feast of All Souls, Dsuady, Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed, Defuncts' Day or even Day of the Dead. It is celebrated around the world by Catholic Christians, Anglican Christians and also some Protestants. It is believed on this day that Christians should pray for the dead on this day to release the deceased persons' sins so that heaven can be reached. Prayer and attending Mass will help that deceased person go to heaven.

*Day of the Dead/Dia De Los Muertos: This is the second day of the two day holiday. Yesterday was known as All Saints Day and today is All Soul's Day. This holiday is celebrated under the same practices as the Christian All Soul's Day.

*National Traffic Directors Day: This year is the 5th year anniversary of the start of this holiday. Although there is no mention of the exact creator of this holiday, I did find that Traffic Directors Guild of America, an organization for traffic directors did seem to be one of the few sites that mentioned this holiday.

*Plan Your Epitaph Day: I have to admit, I did have to look up the term Epitaph. Apparently to the Webster's Dictionary it is the inscription written on a tombstone, not sure how that one got past me. It is common to have a verse or poem written for your tombstone however it is being common ground to write your own Epitaph and today is the day to do so. There is one tombstone Epitaph that I heard a while back that stated, "I told you I was sick..." What will be your epitaph?

There are some weird holidays out there. Just this am, my daughter (9) was advocating a special day for veterinarians and I told her that if we look it up, we will probably find that there is one.

Practice Being Psychic Day? Um, Okay, I predict that this particular holiday will never result in a National holiday which will result in a government worker having the day off, lol. Great article as always.
