Top 10 Weirdest Political Parties in the U.S.
For centuries, political parties have shaped our country. They've ran conspiracies, bashed opponents, and have even gotten some presidents into office. Of course, when we think of political parties, we normally think of the Democratic Party and the
Republican Party, perhaps even the Green Party too. However, what many Americans don't realize is that there are dozens and dozens of different political parties out there. These political parties promote their own messages to people all over the country, some being more strange or obscure than others. And although some of these parties have been formed within the last few years, or have yet to endorse a candidate, they spread their message with full force, no matter how odd it may be. With that, I introduce to you the top 10 weirdest political parties:
10. The U.S. Marijuana Party.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the U.S. Marijuana Party's message is. This party works to promote the legalization of marijuana and protecting the civil liberties of people, especially those that have had their rights infringed by the government's war on drugs. The party was founded recently in 2002 and has fielded candidates on several states' ballots. It isn't too difficult to get involved into this party either, as they have many local chapters which are always welcoming new supporters.
9. The Socialist Workers Party.
This Bill Gates and Donald Trump-hating group known at the Socialist Workers Party seems anything but American. After all, they support Fidel Castro's approach to Marxism. However, this group dedicates itself to hard work and supporting the American work force. Susprisingly, this group has a candidate on the ballot during every single presidential election. In the 2004 election, the SWP candidate came in 9th place and had over 10,000 votes from the 14 state ballots it was on. Not only are these numbers large for such an extreme party, but they also work to appeal to immigrant workers, especially Hispanics and Eastern Europeans.
8. The Prohibition Party.
