What I share with you here is the result of what began as a very personal experience. I hope this may serve as encouragement for those folks who are considering using herbs for general well-being, or as a treatment for an existing or possible ailment. This said, if you are encouraged by my words, then please consult a homeopath or other professional who can provide you with customized guidance on how herbs may help you.

HOW I GOT INTO HERBS

A few years back, and through some interesting circumstances, I had the opportunity to become the caretaker (caregiver?) for a truly amazing person. My friend was an artist, author, teacher, lecturer, mentor, carpenter, craftswoman - at the time I knew her, she even got herself a sheepskin in a top 5 American law school. In this respect she was definitely the female incarnation of a "renaissance man". She was a force to be reckoned with, yet was the epitome of selflessness and generosity - even in the face of a death that would soon come banging on her door.

I had accepted a job in my friend's town and moved in with her originally on a temporary basis, until I could find a place of my own to live. Unfortunately, a few days after I moved in, she walked into the house with a look of confounded shock and utter perplexity written all across her face: she had just come back from the doctor's office.

He diagnosed her with cancer - the kind of news that no-one would wish to come home with.

After some thought and discussion, we agreed to have me stay on as a caretaker in whatever capacity I could offer. The five years that followed weren't exactly easy for either of us, but it definitely was not without its rewards.

Thanks for the plug for non-traditional medicine. Many people forget that medications began from herbs. Not all herbs are equil and you want to know how to get the best guality. Catnip may grow near the railroad track, but that is not a good source for harvesting it. I suggest that everyone have a homepathic and osteopathic doctor as well as a regular family allopathic practioner.
