In a similar real-life consumer alert, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has requested a recall of two products that contain ingredients that may potentially interact with some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and other nitrates. The two products being recalled are sold under the trade names "True Man Sexual Energy Nutrient Capsules" and "Energy Max Energy Supplement Men's Formula Capsules." According to the FDA press release, the FDA has not approved these two products and there is no information on their safety or effectiveness.
The FDA warns that these products are illegal drugs containing ingredients that can lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. In FDA laboratory research, these two dietary supplements used to enhance erectile function, showed that they contain potentially harmful undeclared ingredients. The manufacturer, America True Man Health, Inc., of West Covina, California, received a notice by the FDA to recall the products. The products are sometimes advertised as all natural alternatives to approved erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs.
According to the FDA chemical tests, the Energy Max capsules contain thione, which is related to sildenafil, similar to the active ingredient in Viagra. True Man contains the same ingredient or a related ingredient to vardenafil that is found in Levitra. The FDA has not approved thione and analogs of vardenafil in their FDA-approved drug products. These erectile dysfuntion analog ingredients may have serious side effects when taken with prescription medications used for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.
