As you can tell, I had a hard time with my title on this one. This article is an experiment to see just what it takes to write something on AC that gets a good up front payment and also gets a lot of page hits ... and maybe even gets that elusive prize of being a featured article!

Looking back at the articles I've written, and looking at the page views, the ones that have generated the most interest in page views have been related to sex, making money, diet and/or exercise to lose weight, and makeup to prevent (or help with) wrinkled or aging skin, and product reviews. The second most popular topics are celebrities, decorating, babies / kids, weddings, local things to do, and health issues. The least popular articles have been on travel, pets, God, and restaurant reviews. I haven't even tried writing any news stories so I don't know how they rank in the performance realm.

I wonder if my experience is consistent with other writers on AC? Perhaps it's not the article topics ... maybe it's my writing style, or article promotion, or general interest in the topic I'm writing on at the time.

I've tried to recruit a lot of friends and family members to write on AC, but the most consistent comment I get from them is "I have nothing to write about that would interest anyone". I tell them that the world is their oyster and to just go for it, but so far none of them have taken the bait.

So just what does constitute a good article in the world of Associated Content?

Well let me say that I have been here 3 days and I have no idea about the publishing process. I have submitted 7 articles and I don't know if or when I will be published. I understand the guidelines, but the entire content producer issue has me wondering. Your article is good, however for a newcomer it is as confusing as FAQ when it comes to finding your way around this site. Does anyone concern themselves with new comers? Does anyone contact new people or are they just left to flounder around wondering what happens next?

For anyone keeping score - as of today 7/17/08 - there have been 565 page view. So much for my theories huh?

Very creative and I think with just you title alone you will get a lot page views.

This was a fun read! I I have yet to find "The Magic Formula." You never know what articles are going to earn the most PVs.

Nikki, that's a great article, hilarious too; it's creative and original. I never could or would have thought of it!

Well this is weird ... the PV's went down since last time I checked. LOL. 425 as of 2/5/08 vs. 483 on 1/7/08.

We are into February now so I am just double checking this one and to give some personal experience: I am mystified by what gets the most PVs! Some of my topics are "hot" ones (Vytorin) but others are not and the page views really vary widely for no reason that I have yet discovered. I am sure SEO is a part of it but I haven't really explored that to the max.

483 PV's as of today

Nikki Checking back to see how you've been doing with the PVs, etc.

Well... as for keywords, I don't think it counts if each paragraph mainly has a different focused keyword. I think keywords have to be evenly spaced throughout the article and have to have a few main ones (especially if they're in the title also). But, I don't think there's a long-term magic formula you can rely upon. As long as you write enough decent articles about common/popular topics, they'll build up over time. However, if you can write articles on hot news topics, they'll boost your overall page views also. I just got lucky by being in the loop on one of the biggest scandals recently.

I never know what to write about. I am beginning to think that all I kmow about are dogs and cats!
