One of the ways in which our society is changing is that we not only are looking at physical violence as an indicator that a relationship is not be healthy. There is a term used quite often now called emotional abuse. The difference between the two besides the obvious, is that emotional abuse is a lot harder to recognize and deal eliminate. If someone were to take a bottle and hit you with it, you would right away know that it was a physical attack and not good for your health. You would either respond by retaliating, leaving or seeing them in court.

Emotional or psychological abuse is something that can be just as damaging, especially over an extended period of time. It can contribute to creating low self-esteem, stress, depression and other psychological illnesses that can affect the body physically as well. However if or when we are in relationships or an environment that have this type of aspect to them, we cannot always see this clearly and often accept it. There are quite a few ways in which people can experience emotional abuse. Often a child can experience it growing up with a parent who is negative, overly controlling or verbally abusive. Then the child will usually go throughout life accepting or creating this behavior in their own relationships. They see it as normal or that there is nothing wrong with it. They would not be able to see why or how this may contribute to an overall lack of success, happiness or good health.

There have been some examples of where this type of behavior was put on display for the whole world to see. The most recent is concerning the bounty hunter that goes by the name of Dog. He was recorded being not so nice on the phone with his son and not only was he being verbally aggressive to his son, but he also was speaking ignorantly concerning a whole race of people. Not so long ago there was also a recorded message left on an answering machine by one of the Baldwin's, in which he was not displayed in such a good light after being verbally abusive to his daughter.
