It seems there are more and more comedy movies at theaters every year. Comedic actors like Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller are just as big household names as actors like George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. It's easy to understand why there are more and more comedies. Fans like them and they're probably a lot cheaper to make than action movies.

I don't seem to have the same sense of humor as most movie fans I guess because I don't find most comedies to be funny at all. Ninety-five percent of jokes in comedies seem to be dirty jokes and I don't get the fascination with dirty jokes. It's not that I'm a complete prude or anything. I admit I am a conservative person but when it comes to humor I don't think there are any boundaries.

I just don't think dirty jokes are original or witty and that is what makes a good joke. Jokes that are told in movies like Old School or I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry are the same jokes I heard in the locker room in 7th grade. Why should I shell out nine bucks to see a movie written by guys who are no better than perverted twelve-year-old kids? Why should I be impressed that actors in their late 30s and early 40s can still act like they're in high school?

Most of the classic funny moments in movies don't come in comedies at all; they come in action movies. In a comedy there is usually just a long string of jokes and some are good and some aren't but in an action movie there is drama and suspense and then BOOM out of nowhere there is a great one liner or a priceless expression.

Forget about Adam Sandler, I'll take Harrison Ford. The scene in Indiana Jones when the guy with the sword starts showing of his swordsmanship skills and Indy just pulls out his gun and calmly shoots him is better than any moment in any Adam Sandler movie and Harrison Ford has other great moments as Indiana Jones and Han Solo as well.

Bruce Willis has more funny quotes as John McClane in the first Die Hard movie alone than Ben Stiller has had in his entire career.

Takeaways
  • Action Movies have jokes that are witty and out of the blue.
  • Comedies have some funny jokes but a very small percent are good.
  • Actors like Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis and Will Smith are funnier than Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler

I love Will Smith too and think he is hilarious in every movie he does. Even the dramatic The Pursuit of Happiness had some funnly one liners. I also loved Bad Boys and thought that was very funny as well as action packed.
