D-E-N-Z-E-L-B-A-D-A-_-_ what you know about him...wipe him down! In Jersey city, he hooked up with Mr. Ridley. Chinchilla coat and hat... put alpaca on the map and got a lot of African-American people chances to act. Hold it down Denzel baby! Free T.I.P! Free T.I.P! Ok now that I got that out of the way, American Gangster is another Denzel great. This review will ruffle feathers, probe minds and tread the color lines so beware. I must get this off my chest. Denzel has been acting for 10 YEARS LONGER than Russell Crowe. NOBODY in the theater came to see Russell yet Denzel name isn't the first to role in the credits. I mean what does the man have to do get his props in Hollywood? Throughout this film, I felt a sense of pride, anger, empathy, sympathy and respect...for the actors, the professional game and the will to shake the world on its heels.

All the big movie critics reviewed this film because here is a film that depicts just what racist America wants to see..a black man being a pariah in his own community. I find it sad that Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry still do not have the power to take the acting in American Gangster and match it with the positive story line of Why Did I Get Married? Imagine the empowerment of recognizing the positive family portrayal being recognized by all Americans and not just African-Americans. Don't get me wrong, as the top consumers our choices of fan loyalty speaks at the box office every time. However, films like Malcolm X, Hotel Rwanda, Talk To Me, The Color Purple and Antwoine Fisher do not get the accolades they deserve in the Academy like they should. I am so proud of Halle Berry and Denzel Washington winning academy awards but we all know she should have won for her role in Dorothy Dandridge and Denzel should have one for his role in Malcolm X. Remember the pride you felt as an American when you saw, United 93 and World Trade Center and how proud we are of our heroes of 9-11? Why can't we remove the color blinds and look at all human situations that way? We can if we want to but now it just is not the real world.

Well, he's okay, but that's about it.

I enjoyed reading your comment to yourself! It's very nice to meet someone who thinks outside of the box (with a little help from above). I love Denzel because he consistently delivers in every movie. I believe he will be proven to be one of the greatest actors of our time. Great review.

Great Review! I think Denzel Washington is great, too.

In my humble opinion, Frank Lucas was a very sharp business man, with a no non-sense attitude! I'm not a advocate for drugs, but I understand. If he were to market a legal product, he'd be the first black Bill Gates! I think everyone from all backgrounds can learn from his integrity, determination, transperancy, and professionalism. I give this review a A+!

I would go see anything that Denzel is in because he is the man for sure. He has that swagger that everyone is always talking about. I was a bit disapointed in this movie because they wasted too much time on Russel Corwes character. They didn't get to the real essence of Frank Lucas. The movie was not a gangster movie at all. I am going to go see it again next weekend though just to see more of Denzel. I liked your points and observations about this movie.

TaNika, Your passion about this film, and your subject knowledge about the genre is obvious, you are a student of cinema to be sure. Sometime though I find your semantics and prose to be hard for me to understand, for example, read the last sentence on the first page outloud slowly to yourself, perhaps I'm missing a pause or a comma or something, but I can't exactly understand it.
