Often Christians are told to pray and take all of their concerns to God. Not everyone will believe prayer works but people continue to pray. It seems what a lot of people don't do is give examples of praying being successful. Perhaps a few examples in the Bible of people who prayed and had their
prayers answered are in order to show just how well prayer can work.

Asa
In 2 Chronicles chapter 14, Asa must lead his men against the Cushites. Asa prays to God saying, "there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty." God then struck down the Cushites and they fled.

David
In Psalm 116 of the Bible David talks about how the "cords of death entangled me." The rest of the chapter goes on to say that if cry out "O Lord, save me" he will, because He is full of grace, righteousness, compassion, He protects the simple hearted and when you are in great need he will save you.

Elisha
In 2 Kings chapter 6 in the Bible the king of Aram sends chariots and horses to surround Elisha in Dothan. Elisha prays and asks God to blind the Arameans so that he may be able to trick them and God answers Elisha's prayer. Elisha then leads the Arameans directly into Samaria.

Jacob
In Genesis 39 the Bible says that Jacob prayed. After taking the birthright of his brother Esau, Jacob was worried that Esau was going to kill him. Jacob prayed that God protect him from Esau and God promised to make Jacob prosper and to "make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted." Esau did not kill Jacob and God's promise was fulfilled

Jehoshaphat
Jehoshaphat also prayed to God when it seemed they were up against an unbeatable army. Judah brought together all the people of Judah in 2 Chronicles 20 and everybody prayed. The Lord answered and told King Jehoshaphat and his people to not be afraid or discouraged for the battle was not theirs, but God's. When the battle came Judah and the people of Jerusalem sang and praised and the Lord set ambushes for the Ammonites and the Moabites.

  • All Christians Should Pray
  • Many people in the Bible had their prayers answered.

This is a really great article, Lee. Kelly's right, sometimes the answer isn't always exactly what we hoped for, but God does answer prayers.

Nice one, Lee. I used to be surprised when I'd see a prayer request granted. It took a long time to learn that the Lord wants us to expect results. (James 1:6)

Nicely written. Prayer really does "work", even if the answers aren't what we were hoping for.
