Even though Microsoft Windows is one of the most widely used operating systems found on personal computers, there are still some Windows-based computer users whom are unaware of how to use Windows Update, when to use Windows Update, and why you should use Windows Update. Microsoft Windows Update is a sub-site of Microsoft which includes both the latest versions of Microsoft Windows system settings files and Microsoft Program files such as Microsoft Office and Windows Media Player. Part of maintaining peak operating system conditions on your personal computer means making sure the system files and program files are kept as much up to date with the current technology as possible. With Windows Update, it is extremely easy to keep your system up to date with up to the minute file settings and program settings.

You should become familiar with Windows update immediately after you perform an install of Microsoft Windows. There are two methods you can use to begin using Microsoft Windows update. The First method you can use to begin Microsoft windows update is to open Microsoft Internet Explorer, and type in the web address http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com .The website then installs a program on your computer which scans for any currently needed updates, and allows you to automatically update your computer with the most critical updates in the future. You can also access Windows Update by pointing to Start, programs, Windows update from the start menu of your Windows-based computer.

Initiating Windows Update from your Start menu will install the same Windows Update software as if you used the web address. Windows Update downloads both the latest versions of system files and device drivers for devices such as sound hardware and video hardware, on your computer. Windows Update will also help to improve functionality of your web browser and any Microsoft software products.
