Type
There are two types of child safety gates. The first is the pressure-mounted design. These child safety gates are installed by placing them in an opening and tightening them by pushing down on a handle. These gates are usually your least expensive option. They are also more portable as you can also move them to other areas of the house easily. However, these gates are much easier to move out of position. Therefore, they are not a good choice for using to protect stairs.
The next type of gate is the wall-mounted design. These child safety gates are permanently mounted to a wall. These gates are considerably more stable than pressure-mounted gates, so your child won't be able to move it out of position. Wall-mounted child safety gates are usually more expensive.
Size
One of the next things you need to consider when buying child safety gates is size. Most gates will only have a width of 40 inches. However, there are also child safety gates that can measure more than 20 feet. These gates can usually be used to create a self-contained area that your child can't escape from.
Height
You should also think about height when buying child safety gates. If you don't feel like taking the gate down each time you need to get by, you will need to step over it. Therefore, you should look to buy child safety gates that are short enough that you can easily get over them. However, the gates need to be tall enough so that your child can't get over them.
Door
One of the final things you should consider when buying child safety gates is a swinging door. Some designs will come with a swinging door. This will allow you to get through the gate easily without having to take it down. These child safety gates will also keep you from having to hop over the gates repeatedly.
