If your child is into archery just like mine, chances are your child would also get signed up for target archery competitions. As in any competition, it is important that your child prepares for the competition to get better at it and be ready for the day itself.

How to Prepare Your Child for a Target Archery Competition: Sign Up for JOAD

If your child is serious about target archery competition, you can sign up your child for JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development). JOAD is designed to encourage children's participation in archery. It offers kids a chance to train for competition and get to know other local archers while improving fundamental skills, learning advanced techniques, and perfecting an individual and consistent shooting style.

Depending on your child's performance during these sessions, you can sign up your child for target archery competitions as your child continues to advance in skills.

How to Prepare Your Child for a Target Archery Competition: Right Equipment

It helps to get the right equipment for your child. Although some of the program like JOAD offers free use of their archery equipment, if your child is into this for the long haul and would like to compete every time there is an opportunity, it would be good to train with their own equipment.

How to Prepare Your Child for a Target Archery Competition: Practice Shots

Aside from regular practice from JOAD or any training programs, your child would still need to practice regularly if your child is going to be in target archery. If you have a huge property and it is well-fenced in, you can set up a target practice site in the comfort of your own backyard. Check for city ordinances and neighborhood conditions if they allow such practices due to safety reasons.
