Your baby has mastered the art of crawling. It's time to baby proof your home to keep your baby safe from danger. One of things you will need to purchase to baby proof your home is a baby gate. But how do you choose the right one? Avoid multiple returns and the frustration that goes with it by doin
g your homework.

Consider the place where you will be placing the baby gate. Is it in a high traffic or low traffic area? If you are placing a gate in a high traffic area it may be wise to go with a gate with a swinging door. Low traffic areas would be fine if fitted with a non swinging gate.

If you have children you may want to consider a swinging gate so that your children can pass through. Otherwise you will be stuck trying to lift your child over the gate each time they need to pass. This type of gate would also work well for households with pets, allowing you to open the gate each time they need to enter or leave a room.

One of the most important factors when choosing the right baby gate is the width of your wall. Make sure to measure the width of your wall before leaving to purchase your baby gate. Many baby gates come in different sizes. You don't want to end up purchasing a gate that is too short or too wide which will ultimately land you in the line for returns.

Baby gates also come in a variety of materials. You can find baby gates made with mesh, metal, or plastic. Deciding on which one to choose should be based on your own personal preference. Mesh baby gates do not come with a swinging door, so keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase a mesh baby gate. The upside to a mesh baby gate is that your baby will not injure their heads when butting it up against the baby gate.

Consider the height of the wall you are installing your gate on. The height of the gate can be equally important when deciding on which baby gate you want to purchase. When buying a baby gate for use on stairs you will want to make sure that the gate is not taller than the handrail.
