VIRGINITY: ANCIENT RITUALS, SUPERSTITIONS AND BELIEFSWhilst researching my 2nd book Aromatherapy & Herbalism - the complete home user's guide (amazon.com), I came across many and varied superstitions, rituals and beliefs about Virginity. I would like to share some of these with you.
- An ancient custom in England states clearly that it is lucky for a virgin to hold a newborn baby for the first time
- Virgins are deemed to have great supernatural powers and divination and one single touch from a virgin can cure warts
- Chastity in ancient times was a girl's most treasured possession and in some cultures was considered to be magical
- The grass grows lush on a virgin's grave and any plants on the grave contain magical qualities
- Only a virgin can see a unicorn
- One of the most bizzare beliefs is that a woman who gives birth to seven children regains her virginity
- If you slip powdered coal into a girl's food and she needs to urinate within 5 minutes...she is definitely a virgin
- Only a virgan can walk through a swarm of bees and not be stung
- Only a virgin can re-ignite the flame of an extinguished candle by one single glance
- A virgin does not have large breasts
