Parents of toddlers know it's not always easy to find a holiday craft that is easy to make. Here is a very simple reindeer ornament for toddlers that can also be adjusted for preschoolers and school-aged children. Included in these instructions are four different ways to make this easy and cheap holiday craft for kids.

Supplies

Three craft sticks
two brown pipe cleaners
one piece of red yarn
one red crayon
one black crayon

Optional: white construction paper, more crayons

For preschooler and school-aged children, you can use this supply list:

Three craft sticks
two brown pipe cleaners
one piece of red yarn
*one red pom pom
*two craft eyes
*glue
*glitter glue

Preparing the Holiday Reindeer Ornament for Toddlers

Parents or educators can glue the three craft sticks together, in the form of a triangle. Then face the triangle so the flat edge is on the top, and the angled edges point towards you.

Help the toddler attach the brown piper cleaners to the top corners of the triangle, by twisting the edges around the craft sticks where they meet. This will make the reindeer's antlers.

Tip: curl the top of the exposed pipe cleaner edges over, if there is a sharp point.

The toddler can use the red crayon to color on a red nose, at the bottom point of the triangle. Then they can draw on the eyes underneath the antlers.

Also help them tie the yarn on the middle of the top craft stick, so they may hang their Reindeer Ornament with other homemade holiday decorations.

Option 2 for the Holiday Reindeer Ornament for Toddlers

Some toddlers are okay using glue, others are not. If you have never tried using glue or glue stick with your own toddler during craft time, go ahead and try. Show them how to apply the glue, and supervise them while they try.

Make the triangle, as above. Except this time, glue a piece of construction paper cut into a triangle to the back of the craft sticks. Don't worry about making it the right size yet, just make it bigger than the craft stick triangle.

Fun idea, Pam. Nicely written. I'll have to try it with my girls and let you know how it goes!

Cool! We usually buy our kids an ornament each year, but it would probably be more fun for them to make their own. Plus it would be more sentimental to me. Thanks for the idea!
