One of my favorite homemade Christmas gifts for those in my office is a coffee
mug filled with a homemade soup mix that can easily be microwaved in the office kitchen. This is a great gift that can let someone know that you are thinking of them without breaking the bank.

What you will need for each gift:

A coffee mug, 4 tbs or instant rice, 2 tbs of Knorr soup mix, 1 tbs of beef bullion granules and a plastic baggies. These ingredients are sufficient for a 12 oz. coffee mug. Depending upon the size of your mug, you may need to add more Knorr soup mix or beef bullion granules. It is always a good idea to test your recipe with the mugs that you will be using.

To make this soup mix, simply mix all ingredients together and place it into the baggie. For an added touch you can cover the baggie with a piece of colored cellophane and secure with a colorful ribbon or bow. You can print the cooking instructions below and attach it to the mug. If you are a bit more creative, you could write a short saying or poem to describe the gift in a clever way.

Instructions for making the mug full of soup: Simply empty the soup mix into the mug, fill will water and microwave for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. Allow the soup to sit for 2-3 minutes to allow the rice to finish cooking.

If resources allow, this recipe can be altered to allow for many more servings. If you are feeling a bit creative, you could add additional dried ingredients to the soup mix to make it your own personal recipe. Allrecipes.com offers several dry soup mix recipes that could be used as well.

This same idea can be applied to several different mixes such as a custom tea blend, hot chocolate or a hot cider mix. The possibilities are endless and can even be customized to what you think the gift recipient would appreciate the most. I know that this soup mix has gone over well in my office because it makes a quick lunch that can be eaten at your desk. I have even been asked to make it in bulk for the office kitchen so that we can have it on hand all winter long.

I really like this idea. It's easy, inexpensive, and still personal.
