On Monday, Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party announced that the Party has come up with an agenda for action in the area of agriculture in Egyptian society.

The Party is adamant that farmers can be seen as part of the very backbone of Egyptian society, and thus what is good for Egyptian farmers economically and technologically is good for the nation of Egypt.

The Party desires to see the growth and expansion of Egypt's agricultural economy both on a national and a global scale.

To this end, six initiatives were hammered out, which would include the government establishing new and fortifying existing agricultural cooperatives; supporting the nation's Bank of Credit and Agricultural Development; aiding in the development of directive agricultural institutions; expanding the agricultural marketing system and post-harvest services; reviewing farming and reclamation plans; and, developing government policies that would expand water resources and irrigation systems.

What's more, ideas for expanding Egypt's exporting of agricultural goods in which it can be competitive on a global scale, especially in major trading partner Europe, were laid on the table. The Party wants to see Egyptian farmers' incomes and profits rise.

Potatoes, oranges, herbal plant products, and cotton were especially noted as offering strong financial opportunity to Egyptian growers and exporters.

"Through this ambitious agenda we will cultivate and export more of what the world needs, providing our farmers with a better quality of life," stated Minister of Agriculture Amin Abazza.

The progress of the Egyptian economy faces many large obstacles. Under what some call the iron-fisted rule of notorious election-manipulator president Hosni Mubarek, the nation's economy has been stultified. Enormous slum-regions have been constructed right upon waste dumps and ancient cemeteries because of the limited infrastructurally-developed space in the nation. There are widespread poverty and illiteracy.
