Ghostly Encounters

It is not only people that run in the opposite direction when they see me, ghosts have occasion to do it too.

Some years ago when I was in a room 114 of the Whispering Winds Motel in Flagstaff Ariz., which had a powder room attached to the bathroom and featured two mirrors facing each other, I had an interesting encounter.

I had been laying on the bed and felt something flicking my hair, dismissing it as a draft, I put it out of my mind, something that we all do when things don't add up. There was no draft, it was an Arizona summer and a hotel room void of air conditioning or draft of any shape or form.

I arose to go to the rest room via the powder room and to my horror there was a tall sooty figure in the shape of a tall man who also horrified. He turned and ran in the direction of the rest room which led to nowhere. I didn't hang around to investigate, I ran back to the bed and slept with the light on. Obviously I never made it to the rest room, even though my sooty visitor had probably gone through the wall.

Being brought up in the old country as a pagan at home and a Roman Catholic at my Benedictine Convent school, I am no stranger to entities; Not uncommon for children in Scotland I was used as channel for seances.

While living in London I had an entity in one house that liked to switch on the washing machine in the middle of the night. That wouldn't have been so bad, but the washing machine needed to be balanced, so it jumped all around the bathroom floor making a real racket. The previous owner had taken his own life by hanging from the stairway and he would often watch me cleaning the bathroom.

One evening I had enough of its nonsense with the washing machine and I went down to the bathroom to find the washing machine in the middle of the floor doing a fast spin, I switched it off and told the entity in no uncertain terms to stop it. It never happened again.

While in Waukesha, Wisc., one of the houses that I lived in was built on top of a mound and it was thronging with activity There are over 2,000 mounds in Wisconsin, many of them have been built on or flattened out by farmers tilling their land.
