During the holidays many of us still like to use pen and paper to write thank you notes and communicate during the year. Holiday tie-dye stationary is a fun craft that can be done with older elementary school age children, middle school children, teens and even cognitively alert seniors as an activity. The project takes roughly fifteen minutes to half an hour to complete.

This project is a wonderful gift to give for the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries or virtually any special occasion. The fun part is you can make lots of pieces in a short amount of time. You will love the smiles that it brings to people's faces when they receive this as a gift item.

Items to Make Tie-Dye Stationary

Plain, white note paper

Plain white envelopes

Red food coloring drops

Green food coloring drops

Roll of paper towels

Lots of newspaper or brown paper bags

Craft Smock (optional)

Gloves (optional)

How to Make Tie-Dye Stationary

The first step of this project is to cover your working area with newspaper. You will be working with food coloring so it tends to stain. Make certain that the work area has a thick layer of newspaper (including the floor).

You can wear a craft smock and the gloves if you like for this project. If you are making holiday tye dye stationary with younger children, it is recommended that you have them wear the craft smock and gloves.

Lay out three sheets of plain, white paper on your work surface. Uncap the food coloring. Remove one sheet of paper towel from the roll. Place a small amount of food coloring on the corner of the paper towel. Dab the wet paper towel on the plain white paper.

Repeat this step with the second holiday food coloring color of your choice. Alternate between colors dabbing so that they overlap one another. You will have a tie-dye appearance on the stationary. Set aside to dry.

Lay out three envelopes on your work surface. Turn the envelopes so that the wrong side or the side with the flap is facing you. You do not want to tye dye the front where the address and stamp will go. That can irritate some postal workers.

This is an exceptional idea. My sister makes tie-dyed everything and I'll have to mention this idea to her. I might just try it myself!
