Dangerous Tides by Christine Feehan is one of the Drake Sister novels. Prior to this book I'd only read a short story about Kate Drake in The Wicked and Wondrous, which I reviewed earlier in the year. The Drake sisters are a group of seven magic using sisters who live and work together, or very close to each other when their careers aren't dragging them around the world.

Dangerous Tides focuses on Dr. Libby Drake, a woman whose gifts allow her to heal others, within reason. But her gift comes at a cost. It drains her, pulls from her energy and it's only with the help of her sisters that she can survive some of the healing attempts she commits herself to.

One such time is when Tyson Derrick is injured during the rescue of a teenage boy. He's brain damaged, unlikely to live, but something calls Libby through the hospital where she risks all to cure him. But Ty doesn't believe in the abilities of the Drake sisters. To him it's all nothing more than a scam, a way they can be the center of attention. There's no way, to Ty's logical mind, that such abilities could actually exist. But he's seen how exhausted this ongoing fraud is making Libby, and he can no longer allow her to continue killing herself.

Ty and Libby are drawn together, even though Ty rubs her the wrong way with his accusations about her family, she's still intrigued and in love with him. And Ty feels the same way.

But other forces are at work. Ty's harness shouldn't have snapped during the rescue. Sam, his cousin, is beaten up by a pair of thugs, there's a powerful man in desperate need to talk to Libby, and on going drug trials which leave Ty at the center of an argument that could endanger all of them.

Who is behind the attempts on Ty and Libby's life?

Can they reconcile their different beliefs and find peace together?

Ms. Feehan has written a powerful and compelling novel. The passion between Libby and Ty is hard to ignore. The idea of the Drake sisters intrigues me and I will be looking out for the other books in the series as this one was very well written. However, having said that, I've yet to read at Feehan novel that I haven't enjoyed. So in that I have been very lucky indeed.
