Are you eager to move to another city that you fell in love with, perhaps when you were on vacation, but don't know where to start in the job hunting process? It's actually not that hard to improve your chances of getting a job over the local residents in your market. There are several steps that can help you do this.

First of all, set up a P.O. Box in your chosen city. You might have to actually go to your city to do this, or you may be able to get your box over the phone. Then give the post office instructions to forward your mail to your current address. This step is crucial. It will dramatically improve your chances of a higher response rate from prospective employers to the resumes that you send out to the companies in your chosen city, since your address is in the local area.

When you get your responses, try and schedule all of your interviews within the same few days. Since you can take deductions from your job hunting trip, it will be easier to keep track of your entitled deductions. And also by doing this you will cut down on your travel expenses quite a bit, especially if your chosen area is far away.

When you get to your interviews, conduct yourself in a professional manner. Dress conservatively, and have a list of questions ready in regards to the potential job. When talking to your prospective employer at the interview, be honest about where you live now, and explain that you are eager to re-locate. (Don't ask him to pay for your travel expenses, as that would cast a negative shadow over you.) In most cases an employee will be impressed by your efforts and hard work in trying to find employment in another area. He will usually understand that a person eager to re-locate and is willing to pay his own travel expenses is a serious prospective employee and a go-getter. This fact alone should make you as valuable as any current resident the employer might be considering.
