Childhood habits are hard to break. Especially ones that relate to the foods that we grow up on. One of my annoying childhood habits is my love for gum. I seriously believe that I am addicted to the stuff. There is hardly a moment that you will find me not chewing on a piece. The taste of the gum plays a major factor as well. My taste buds always want to get their gum related fix. I started to wonder if my odd habit was so odd and started doing some research. Millions of people chew gum on a daily basis, something I should of realized by the different types that are out there. My discovery led me to wonder, is gum good or bad for you?

Trying to find the answer to my question was a pain in the behind. I seemed to scan and grab every single magazine out there. One instance found me reading several woman's magazines because they seemed to be more informal than the ones I am used to reading. Here I was chewing away. A small chew here. Another chew there. Smacking my lips in anticipation of finding an answer somewhere. I felt like there may of never been a study done on the subject. Then it finally hit me. Right in front of me was the answer I was looking for. Two doctors decided to take the time to answer a simple question from someone wondering the same thing. The answer left me ecstatic and ready to pop another stick of gum into my mouth.

Studies have proved that gum really is not that bad for you. Gum can actually be a benefit to you. This does not mean that it is totally perfect for you. Like most sugar products, gum can actually cause some issues. If you chew sugary gum as much as I do, you can end up with jaw pain, increased gas (from the intake of oxygen with every chew), and even bad teeth! This should be enough for any addicted gum chewer to throw their pack of sticks to the side and call it done with. Wow. I realized that I sound like a cigarette smoker.

I have never been able to chew gum and enjoy it. After 3 minutes of chewing, I start getting a headache.
