We drink Rice Dream more often than Trader Joe's Rice Drink primarily because Rice Dream is organic. Let's look at other differences and similarities. They are both non-dairy beverages. That means they comes in boxes and can be stored in the cupboard. You'll see an expiration date on the boxes which will probably be a year from when you buy them. Rice Dream is more expensive than Rice Milk. Rice Dream runs in the $4.00 range for 64 fluid ounces. Rice Milk runs about $2.70.
They can both be used by drinking a glassful; putting them in your cereal; mixing them into pancake or waffle batter; blend with fruit to make delicious smoothies and you can even bake with them.
They should both be served cold and you should shake them before using. Drink them within 7 to 10 days after opening them. They both open the same way by a tab on the top under which is a piece of foil that gets ripped off.
Neither is intended to be used as a baby formula.
They both taste really good. Blindfolded I can taste the difference between these two and milk however in a smoothie or cereal I can't taste the difference.
A serving is considered one cup or 8 ounces. They both have 120 calories. I also have the Vanilla Rice Milk from Trader Joe's which has 130 calories. They both have 2.5 grams of fat; 1.5 grams of monosaturated fat. Rice Dream has 30 more grams of sodium coming in at 100 grams versus 70 in the Rice Drink. Rice Dream has 23 grams of carbohydrates whereas Trader Joe's has 27 grams. Neither has fiber. They both have 10 grams of sugar. Rice Dream has1 gram of protein; Rice Drink has no protein.
They both have 10% of Vitamin A and 30% of Calcium. You'll find 4% of Iron in Rice Dream versus 2% in Rice Drink. They both have 25% of Vitamin D and 25% of Vitamin B12.
Rice Dream has fewer ingredients and the all important organic rice. It has filtered water, certified organic brown rice (partially milled), expeller processed high oleic safflower oil, sea salt.
Rice Drink has filtered water, brown rice (partially milled) expeller pressed sunflower and/or safflower and/or canola oil, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt and carrageenan.
